Williams' New Car Challenge on Rally GB
Tom Williams will tackle this weekend’s Dayinsure Wales Rally GB in a new car, as he gets behind the wheel of an updated Ford Fiesta R2T with Phil Hall alongside.
Running the car will be MH Motorsport and Williams recently took the car for a pre-event test. “It is quite different to the old car, with a turbo the driving style has to change to cater for the torque. The braking and handling are also improved on this newer car so we know this weekend will be a steep learning curve for us.” Explained Williams.
Williams has already featured in the World Rally Championship this season, having competed on the infamous Rally Finland and the tarmac roads of Rally Germany. Williams also took second in class on this year’s British Rally Championship and is looking forward to the challenges on his home event. “We have the British and European Junior Champions competing with us this weekend as well as those competing for the World Rally Championship.” Said Williams.
With four days of stages to look forward too, Williams and Hall are keen to continue the successes from the British Rally Championship. “We have many supporters who help us before, on and after an event.” Said Williams. “Last year we came home with second in class. With such a change in the car we know that this event will be about building speed and confidence. These are stages we know from previous years, so we can concentrate on out performance in the car.”
Based in Deeside for the weekend, Wales Rally GB takes in over 300km of special stages including two spectator specials at Tir Prince Raceway on Thursday evening and Cholmondeley Castle on Saturday afternoon. The rally climaxes with a stage around the picturesque Llyn Brenig before heading to Llandudno for the ceremonial finish.
Supporting Williams and Hall for the event will be Genesis, Pirelli, Speedline, Castrol, RaceParts, 88 Cars, Codemasters and SpillAway.
